Ukrainians won two medals on day 5 of 2022 Paralympics

Ukrainian Paralympians won two medals on the fifth day of the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing, China; Ukraine is with 19 awards, in third place in the medal standings.

During the fifth day of the competition, Ukrainians competed in cross-country skiing: a day off in biathlon, while skiers determined the best in the sprint distance (1.5 km).

First, the competition was held in the format of qualification, then the semifinals, and then the finals. In total, medals were drawn in six different classes.

Ukrainian parachutists reached the finals in most cross-country skiing competitions, and two of them managed to win medals.

Hryhorii Vovchynskyi (athlete with musculoskeletal disorders, standing class) won the bronze medal in the intensive final, losing less than two seconds to the winner. Vovchynskyi started the final behind, but in the second part of the distance, he went on the attack, got to third place, fought for second place, and eventually won the bronze.

For Vovchynsky, this is the third medal of Beijing 2022, he has already collected a full set of awards.

Oksana Shyshkova won the second medal for Ukraine in a day: she won "silver" in the class of para-athletes with visual impairments. Oksana was ahead of two Germans in the final but missed the athlete from Austria.

For Shyshkova, this is the fourth medal of the 2022 Paralympics, she has won two gold and two silver medals.

Medals of Ukraine on the fifth day of the 2022 Paralympics:

  • "silver": Oksana Shyshkova (cross-country skiing, sprint)
  • "bronze": Hryhoriy Vovchynsky (ski race, sprint)

In total, Ukraine has 19 medals after five days of competition: 6 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze. With this result, the Ukrainians are in third place in the medal standings.
