Occupiers were unable to capture Izium, but the city needs humanitarian assistance

An attempt by the Russian military to capture the town of Izium in the Kharkiv region failed at night, but bridges were blown up and locals needed urgent humanitarian assistance.

This was reported by correspondent Iryna Hnatiuk from Kharkiv with reference to the Deputy Mayor of Izium Volodymyr Matsokyn, with whom she only managed to talk to, UP.

"At midnight, the Russian military entered the left bank of the Donets, near Izium. Bridges were blown up. So far we have no other information because the connection is lost. Izium has very poor communication. According to the General Staff, at midnight the enemy suffered losses when trying to capture the city of Izium, the occupier withdrew. But they looted there," she said.

It is not possible to leave Izium in an organized way, because the bridges have been destroyed.

According to the journalist, Matsokyn compared Izium to Khatyn (a village in Belarus, which became one of the symbols of the destruction of civilians during World War II – ed.).

"The city is completely destroyed, people can't even get humanitarian aid. That's why locals are asking to organize green corridors so that they can get humanitarian aid. For days, people are in basements, shelters; they're running out of food, medication; there is no electricity, water supply there now, and there is no way to restore it," she said.
