Pope Francis called for an end to the war in Ukraine and the provision of humanitarian corridors.

This was stated by Pope Francis, quoted by Vatican Radio.

"Rivers of blood and tears are flowing in Ukraine. It is not merely a military operation, but a war, which sows death, destruction, and misery. The number of victims is increasing, as are the people fleeing, especially mothers and children. The need for humanitarian assistance in that troubled country is growing dramatically by the hour," he said.

"I make a heartfelt appeal for humanitarian corridors," he said. "War is madness! Stop, please! Look at this cruelty!"

The pope called for guarantees of aid to those under siege.

In addition, Francis called for an end to the armed attack on Ukraine so "that common sense prevails."

The Pope also thanked all those who receive refugees.
