US Congress calling for transferring fighter jets from Poland to Ukraine
A member of the US House of Representatives, Michael McCall, called for the transfer of fighter jets to Poland following a request from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Western countries to send fighter planes to Ukraine.
This was reported by CNN.
"Yesterday I called on the Secretary of State to complete this agreement. You know, Ukrainians can fly in Russian MiGs. But then Poland wants to get another order, and it could be an F-16," said McCall, who is in Poland.
McCall is a Republican and a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
"We do not intend to bring our troops there, but you know how we can help the Ukrainian people win this war… I think the will of the Ukrainian people will surpass the will of Russian troops. And if we can arm them for self-defense, we will defeat the Russians," said McCall.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has confirmed that the United States is looking for ways to quickly replenish Polish fighter jets so that Poland can provide its fighter jets to Ukraine.
Note
Earlier, a White House representative confirmed that the United States was discussing with Poland the possibility of providing fighters to Ukraine.
These are Soviet fighters, such as the MiG-29, on which Ukrainian pilots have already been trained to fly.
European Council President Charles Michel has said that EU military aid to Ukraine will not include funding for fighter jets.
Ukraine insists that the EU, the United States, Canada, and Britain impose new sanctions on Russia and provide Ukraine with fighter jets immediately.
