Nuremberg prosecutor confirms Putin could be convicted of crimes against humanity
Prosecutor Benjamin Ferencz, who worked at the Nuremberg Trials (the trial of Hitler's German leaders), confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin could be convicted of crimes against humanity committed by the Russian military in Ukraine.
This was stated by Ferencz in an interview with the Mirror.
"The crimes that Russia is currently committing against Ukraine are a disgrace to human society, and those responsible must be held accountable for aggression, crimes against humanity, and murder," he said.
According to Ferencz, Putin could be imprisoned as Radovan Karadzic, a Bosnian Serb leader accused of genocide.
"It is very realistic (imprisonment of the President of the Russian Federation – ed.). All you need is the determination to do it because they (Russians – ed.) don't live on the moon. I want to see Putin behind bars. It is possible," Ferencz added.
According to him, the West hoped that the threat of the Nuremberg Trials would stop Putin from further aggression, but this did not happen.
Ferenc added that he and those around him no longer have any doubts about Putin's crimes against Russia, as much of the evidence suggests that the Russian military is targeting civilians and using cluster bombs.
Benjamin Ferencz will turn 102 next week.
To recap, a group of investigators from the International Criminal Court in The Hague has left for Ukraine to investigate a collective international lawsuit against Russia over its war crimes.
