Ukraine asks Red Cross to urgently assist in creating humanitarian corridors

Ukraine asks the International Committee of the Red Cross to urgently assist in the creation of humanitarian corridors, which Ukraine and Russia agreed on during the second round of talks.

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, member of the Coordination Staff for Humanitarian and Social Affairs Olha Stefanishyna.

"Ukraine has sent all necessary requests to international organizations to create special corridors for the delivery of essentials and evacuation of civilians. Unfortunately, before the Russian side hadn't agreed. Today's agreements on the second round of talks between Ukraine and Russia give us cautious hope that we will finally be able to help our citizens," Stefanishyna said.

According to her, due to constant shelling by Russian troops, a number of Ukrainian towns and villages are on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe. Thousands of people are now in urgent need of evacuation because their towns and villages lack food, water, medicine, electricity, and water.

Ukraine is ready to ensure the export of people and delivery of humanitarian goods. The Ukrainian Armed Forces guarantee the safe passage of the corridor. Ukraine expects this from the Russian side.

Settlements that need humanitarian corridors:

  • Sumy region (directions Sumy, Shostka, Romny, Konotop, Okhtyrka),
  • Chernihiv region (eastern and northern parts of the region),
  • Kharkiv region (all region, except the south-eastern part),
  • Kyiv region (Bucha, Irpin, Vyshhorod, Ivankiv, Vasylkiv, Borodianka),
  • Mykolayiv region (Bashtanska, Snihuriv, Bereznehuvate directions),
  • Zaporizhzhia region (Tokmak, Berdiansk, Velykobilozersk directions),
  • Kherson region (Chaplynka, Kalanchak, Henichesk and Nova Kakhovska directions),
  • Luhansk and Donetsk regions (Volnovakha district, Mariupol district), etc.

Ukraine hopes that the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer will do everything possible to deploy work in humanitarian corridors to save lives as soon as possible.

Note
