UN General Assembly adopts resolution calling on Russia to stop using force in Ukraine and withdraw troops

According to Ukrinform's own correspondent in New York, the decision was made with an unprecedented number of votes to applause.

141 countries voted in favor, 5 voted against and 35 abstained.

Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, and Syria voted against it.

It is noted that the UN General Assembly condemns the decision of the Russian Federation of February 24, 2022, on the "special military operation" in Ukraine.

It is deeply concerned about reports of attacks on civilian objects, such as housing, schools, and hospitals, as well as civilian casualties, including women, the elderly, the disabled, and children.

"The military action of the Russian Federation on the sovereign territory of Ukraine has a scale that the international community has not seen in Europe for decades," the resolution said, "and urgent action is needed to save this generation from the scourge of war."

The resolution calls on the Russian Federation to immediately cease the use of force against Ukraine and to refrain from any further illegal threat or use of force against any Member State.

It also demands that the Russian Federation immediately, completely, and unconditionally withdraw all its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

And immediately and unconditionally cancel the decision on the status of certain districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
