Lukashenko assures Belarus has no plans to take part in Russia’s war against Ukraine

The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has stated that Belarus has no plans to take part in Russia's war against Ukraine.

The statement was made by Lukashenko at a meeting with members of the Security Council and the leadership of the Council of Ministers, BelTA has learned.

"The Belarusian army has not taken or is not taking part in any hostilities. We can prove it to anyone," he said.

"Moreover, the Russian leadership has never asked us this question, about our participation in the armed conflict. We are not going to take part in this special operation in Ukraine. There is no such need," Lukashenko said.

Lukashenko said the Belarusian army was covering the state border from Brest to Mozyr "to prevent radicals and weapons from entering the country."

At the same time, according to Lukashenko, air defense forces have been prepared in Belarus to prevent "blows to the back" of Russian troops.

"The Minister of Defense informed me of his readiness to cover the western border with five more battalions," he said.

"We can't do otherwise. We are constantly waiting for provocations from Western partners. In politics, in the economy, in the military," Lukashenko said.
