Finnish government intends to help Ukraine with lethal weapons, the media report
The Finnish government intends to help Ukraine with lethal weapons, although they initially considered only protective equipment for military and field hospitals.
The Finnish media reported this, citing its sources on February 28.
According to STT, the ruling coalition already has a unanimous position that Ukraine should be provided with lethal weapons and ammunition. Decisions must be made by the end of the day.
Journalists of Yle and Helsingin Sanomat received the same information.
A briefing on the issue is scheduled for 18:30, with the participation of Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, and Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen. Following the government's decision, the proposal must be approved by the president.
From what is currently known, Finland plans to provide 2,000 helmets, 2,000 body armor, 100 stretchers, and two field hospitals.
Earlier in February, Finland provided 14 million euros to Ukraine for humanitarian projects. In addition, the country contributes to the EU's Peace Facility, which will also fund assistance to Ukraine.
