Beijing calls for restraint following Moscow's threats with nuclear weapons

China calls for restraint following Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to bring Russian nuclear forces on high alert

This was reported by the EP.

When asked by reporters in Beijing about Putin's statement, which was perceived as a threat, although he didn't specifically mention nuclear weapons, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said:

"All parties must remain calm, exercise restraint, and avoid further escalation."

He stressed that China supports all efforts to defuse military confrontation and find a peaceful political solution.

Answering additional questions, the spokesperson stressed that China and Russia were "strategic partners" but not "allies."

China determines its own position and policy in each case.

On February 27, Putin ordered the transfer of deterrence forces to a special combat duty regime.

The Pentagon responded by saying that the United States is capable of protecting itself, its allies, and partners.
