Johnson calls Putin's nuclear threats "a distraction from the reality of what is happening in Ukraine"
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson called the move of the aggressor President Vladimir Putin to bring Russia's nuclear forces into a state of heightened combat readiness "a distraction from the reality of what is happening in Ukraine."
This was reported by Reuters.
Vladimir Putin's troops are facing more resistance than the Russian president expected, Johnson said, adding: "This is a catastrophic, unsuccessful plan."
On February 27, Putin ordered the transfer of deterrence forces to a special combat duty regime.
On this day, the expected attack on Kyiv did not take place again, and the Ukrainians drove out a large column of occupiers from Kharkiv. Johnson said Putin's words were "a distraction from the reality of what is happening."
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine was considering an order by Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring deterrence forces, including nuclear weapons, into readiness, as an attempt to put pressure on the Ukrainian delegation before the talks.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to bring Russia's nuclear deterrent force into high combat readiness is part of a threat scheme that does not exist.
