8 EU countries calls for Ukraine to be granted EU candidate status immediately

The leaders of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia called for Ukraine's immediate EU candidate status.

The President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, together with the Presidents of eight countries of the European Union (EU) expressed support for granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country in the EU.

The presidents of Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Slovakia have written an open letter to EU leaders calling for support for Ukraine's application for EU membership, granting EU candidate status as soon as possible and starting negotiations.

"We, the Presidents of the Member States of the European Union, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic, and the Republic of Slovenia, firmly believe that Ukraine deserves a union perspective.

We, therefore, call on the Member States of the European Union to mobilize maximum political support for Ukraine and to enable the institutions of the European Union to take steps to grant Ukraine candidate status immediately and to start the negotiation process.

At this critical time, we once again express our full solidarity with Ukraine and its people," Nauseda said in an open letter.

Earlier it became known that Zelenskyy signed an application for Ukraine's membership in the EU.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the European Union to accept Ukraine under a special procedure.

"We appeal to the European Union to join immediately under a new special procedure," the president said.

We remind that earlier Slovakia proposed to create a special procedure for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
