"Support Ukraine with weapons": the EU will provide lethal weapons to a third country for the first time ever
The European Union will finance the purchase and delivery of lethal weapons for Ukraine to help it repel the Russian army; this will be the first such case in the history of the EU.
According to "European Pravda", this was stated at a briefing by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
"For the first time, the EU will finance the purchase and supply of weapons and equipment to the attacked country. We are also stepping up sanctions against the Kremlin," she said.
EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell said that a special coordination mechanism with the Ukrainian side would be set up to help meet the needs.
"This will be the first time in the EU's history to provide lethal weapons to a third country, and I have also instructed my team, as well as the EU military staff to create a mechanism to coordinate Ukrainian army requests so that we can respond most effectively with member states," Borrell said.
We remind that Belgium is going to provide Ukraine with automatic rifles and anti-tank weapons.
