Biden stated that an alternative to sanctions against the Russian Federation is the beginning of the World War III

After Russia's attack on Ukraine, the US had two options: either to start an immediate war with the Russian Federation that would become World War III, or to impose extensive sanctions on Moscow.

U.S. President Joe Biden said it in an interview with an American presenter Brien Cohen, RBC-Ukraine reports.

"There are two options: to start a World War III, to go to real war with Russia – or to ensure that a country that acts in such a serious violation of international law will pay the price" – Biden answers the question of the current sanctions against the Russian Federation.

According to the US President, sanctions in principle have no immediate effect, but he is sure that these sanctions, economic and political (against the Russian Federation – red.) are "the most extensive sanctions in history".

"My goal from the very beginning is to make sure that NATO and Europe act alike," Biden said. According to him, one of Putin's possible goals was a split within NATO that would allow him to act as he wanted. " But this did not happen, we have complete unanimity (within NATO and the EU, editor)", the President of the US stressed.

"And Russia will pay heavily for this (the attack on Ukraine, editor) in the short term and especially in the long term," Biden said, adding that it is not only about the European region, but also about the Pacific.

According to Biden, because of his attack on Ukraine, Putin is receiving the opposite effect of what he was aiming for – the unity of democratic countries in confrontation with the Russian Federation.

According to Biden, the world is now at a turning point in its history, which repeats every 2-3-4 generations.

"In the next 10 years we'll see more changes in the world than we saw in the last 50," the President of the United States summarized.
