The United States developed a package of sanctions against Russia's elite in the event of Russia's invasion of Ukraine
The United States has developed a package of sanctions against members of Russia's elite in the event of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said this at a briefing on Monday, the EP reports.
"I can confirm that we have developed special sanctions packages for both Russian elites and their families if Russia continues to invade Ukraine. These efforts are being coordinated with allies and partners," Psaki said.
She added that these individuals were close to the Kremlin and play a role in government decision-making, or, at least, were part of the Kremlin's destabilizing behavior.
"Many of these people are particularly vulnerable because of their deep and financial ties to the West, which means they will suffer from sanctions that tie them to Western financial systems," the White House spokeswoman said.
On Monday, the Financial Times reported that the US administration had completed work on a list of people against whom sanctions would be imposed in the event of a new Russian invasion of Ukraine. These are people who are close to the Kremlin and involved in decision-making or involved in Russia's destabilizing actions.
Earlier it was reported that the US Senate was close to concluding an agreement on a bill on sanctions against Russia for its actions in Ukraine.
To recap, the United Kingdom has stated that it will impose sanctions on companies and people with close ties to the Kremlin if Russia takes military action against Ukraine.
