Statement: EU will provide Ukraine a new financial assistance package, in particular, emergency loans and grants

The European Union will provide Ukraine additional 1.2 billion euros as aid. They provide them to support our country.

The corresponding statement was made by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Matti Maasikas reports.

Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU supports Ukraine.

"I am announcing a new financial assistance package, made of emergency loans and grants, to support Ukraine in the medium and long-term," said the politician on Twitter.

The Head of the European Commission also noted that it would help Ukraine meet the needs of the country's funds through a conflict and would support the country's efforts to increase sustainability.

Ursula von der Leyen said that she hoped that the European Council and the European Parliament would approve this decision as soon as possible. The politician explained:

• the EU will begin to quickly pay the first tranche of 600 million euros;
• will also soon begin to work on the second, long-term macro-financial assistance program to support the country's modernization efforts;
• moreover, this year, the European Commission will almost double bilateral assistance to Ukraine in the form of grants and will allocate another 120 million euros.
