The EU Council has threatened Russia with far-reaching consequences for further military aggression against Ukraine
The EU Council has stated that any further military aggression by Russia against Ukraine would have far-reaching consequences and a high price.
This is stated in the conclusions of the EU Council on European Security, the EP reports.
In particular, the EU Council condemned the continuation of Russia's aggressive actions and threats against Ukraine and called on Russia to de-escalate, comply with international law and engage in constructive dialogue through established international mechanisms.
"As stated by the EU heads of state and government at the European Council in December 2021, any further military aggression by Russia against Ukraine will have far-reaching consequences and will entail serious costs," the EU Council reminded.
"The EU reaffirms its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine and other Eastern Partnership partners within their internationally recognized borders, and calls on Russia to resume constructive participation in existing international structures for a lasting and peaceful resolution of conflicts," the statement said.
The EU Council also reaffirmed a unified approach and ongoing strong cooperation and coordination with the United States, NATO, Ukraine, and other Partner countries.
Ministers also stressed the importance of further strengthening the resilience and response capacity of the EU and its close partners, including countering cyberattacks and hybrid attacks, foreign information manipulation, and interference, including misinformation.
As reported, the European Commission has proposed to provide Ukraine with 1.2 billion euros of emergency macro-financial assistance.
