Macron calls on Europe to open dialogue with Russia and rearmament in the face of Russian aggression
French President Emmanuel Macron calls on European Union countries to invest in EU collective security amid aggressive actions and threats from Russia
France24 reported this.
"Security on our continent requires strategic rearmament," Macron said, adding that "open and demanding" talks with Russia were also needed.
The French president added that Europeans must build their own system of collective security, including creating a pact.
Macron said the dialogue with Russia should be based on principles agreed upon 30 years ago, such as refusing to use force or coercion, giving states the choice to join alliances or bodies they want, and refusing spheres of influence.
"We in Europe must uphold these inalienable rights," Macron said.
