For the first time in 12 years, less than a third of Ukrainians are ready to protest, a poll says
The number of Ukrainians ready to protest has decreased compared to last year, for the first time in 12 years less than a third of respondents are ready to protest.
These are the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology on December 3-11, 2021.
The share of those who say they are NOT ready to take part in any mass protests during 2020-2021 has changed from 57% in 2020 to 64% in 2021. In December 2021, 32, 4% of adults in Ukrain. are ready to take part in protests. The level of readiness to participate in social protests decreased by 5.6% compared to 2020," the statement said.
Of that 32.4% who are ready to protest, 15.7% of Ukrainians see their participation in the election campaign as a form of protest, 11.3% do in authorized rallies and demonstrations, 10.3% do in collecting signatures under collective appeals.
The lowest level of readiness to protest is in the Eastern region (69.8% are not ready to protest); the highest one is in the Central (58% are not ready to protest). In the Western and Southern regions, the situation is almost the same (65.4% and 66.7% are not ready to protest, respectively).
Sociologists also note that more than half of women surveyed, 66.8%, are not ready to take part in protests. Among men, 59.9%.
The level of readiness for protests in the urban population is higher than in the rural population (34.5% vs. 27.9%).
The study lasted from 3 to 11 December 2021. 2,000 respondents aged 18 and older living in all regions of Ukraine (except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the occupied territories of Donbas) were interviewed using telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile numbers.
Statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) doesn't exceed: 2.4% for indicators close to 50%, 2.1% for indicators close to 25%, 1.5%, for indicators close to 10%, 1.1%, for indicators close to 5%.
