A rare phenomenon over the frozen Pidennyi Buh River recorded in Khmelnytskyi
The day before, a rare phenomenon for winter was recorded in Khmelnytskyi: a rainbow over the frozen Pivdennyi Buh River.
This was reported by local media.
"Khmelnytskyi residents have seen a rare phenomenon for the winter over the Pivdennyi Buh. The rainbow has spread from bank to bank, connecting the city center and the river with a bright bridge," the statement said.
It is noted that in science this optical phenomenon is known as a halo. Halo, like the rainbow and the northern lights, is one of the atmospheric optical phenomena caused by the dispersion of light in ice crystals. The appearance of a halo in winter is due to bright sun, severe frost, and high humidity.
The halo appears with the appearance of thin feathery clouds in the sky (at an altitude of about 6 km), and it is they who refract the sun's rays. There was no frost in Khmelnytskyi the day before, and many feathery clouds were seen over the Pivdennyi Buh.
