The first "red bench" in the country installed in Vinnytsia: photo
The first "red bench" in Ukraine has appeared in Vinnytsia. It has inscriptions in ten languages, saying "No to violence," as well as a sign with information on where victims of domestic violence can turn to for help.
This was reported by the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, UNFPA Ukraine.
This initiative came to Ukraine from Italy, where it was launched in 2014 by artist Karim Sherif.
It is also currently being implemented in some cities in Australia and Brazil.
"Color symbolizes how passion can turn into violence, like blood. In Italy, too, there is a significant problem with domestic violence, there are many such benches that have not only symbolic but also informational purposes because they contain tips on where to go if necessary," said Yaroslav Herashchenko from the Center for Development Pangea Ultima.
Installing the "red bench" in Vinnytsia was supported by #UNFPAUkraine in partnership with the city of Vinnytsia under the project "Cities and Communities Free from Domestic Violence."
