Kyiv volunteers restore historic balconies for free
The non-profit organization that restores the facades of Kyiv's historic residential buildings, Mistetyka, is looking for owners of balconies to remove glazing.
Rubryka reports.
Volunteers from Mistetyka said on their Facebook page that they were looking for the first 10 owners or tenants of rooms with king-balconies in houses built no later than the 1930s to dismantle plastic windows and other modern structures for free.
The organization promises to restore the balcony and return it to its historic appearance, which the structure had before the intervention.
The first owner of the glass-balcony has already been found and the balcony's glazing was dismantled. Now the appearance of the house has changed a bit, and this is especially noticeable from the neighboring balconies: the new design looks lighter and organically fits into the exterior.
Volunteers also explained their plan to remove the balcony glazing. It consists of the following actions:
- Searching for plastic or wooden balconies in Kyiv houses built before the 1930s
- Negotiating with the owners of balconies, coordinating all processes and stages of work
- Searching for specialists and necessary equipment
- Analyzing the state of construction and preparation of the final estimate
- Directly dismantling the structure and disposing of materials
- Restoring lost elements of the balcony and facade, according to the project.
- Arranging and decorating for cozy evenings with a new balcony
Activists point out that the work on de-glazing in selected houses is free, but you will have to pay for the decor and other equipment.
