Who do Ukrainians consider a politician, a disappointment, and a meme of 2021?

Most Ukrainians surveyed consider President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a politician, a disappointment, a person, and a meme of 2021.

This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, together with the Razumkov Center, from December 17 to 22.

For the second year in a row, President Zelenskyy topped the ratings for "Politician of the Year" and "Disappointment of the Year." Sociologists note a significant increase this year in both cases.

Thus, in 2021 Zelenskyy was named "Politician of the Year" by 17%, while in 2020, by 14.8%.

45% of respondents called the incumbent president "disappointment of the year," and last year 28% thought so.

The second place in the nomination "Politician of the Year" is shared by ex-president Petro Poroshenko (8.1%) and ex-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov (8%).

8.5% of respondents consider Poroshenko a "disappointment of the year", and 3% name Razumkov.

Another 3% of respondents said they were disappointed by all politicians.

Person-2021

8.5% of those polled named Volodymyr Zelenskyy the person of the year. Second place was shared by Petro Poroshenko (3.6%), Dmytro Razumkov (3.3%), German Chancellor Angela Merkel (3.1%), and American billionaire Elon Musk (3%).

In third place was US President Joe Biden (2.7%). Among those named by more than 1% of respondents were also Yulia Tymoshenko (1.8%), Dmytro Gordon (1.3%), Yevhen Muraev (1.2%), Oleksandr Usyk (1.2%), Vladimir Putin (1.1%), Serhii Prytula (1%), doctors/physicians (1%).

Meme-2021

Respondents were asked if they remembered a funny or amusing event that happened to famous people and can be called a meme in 2021.

Thus, 5.2% of respondents named the memorandum of the year "Volodymyr Zelenskyy's press conference," and 3.4% called the incumbent president a meme. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko and People's Deputy Mykola Tyshchenko received 2.6% each, in particular for their statements "about food prices."

Almost the same number, 2.5% of respondents, called "1000 hryvnias from Zelenskyy"  the meme, and 2.1% of respondents laughed at Illia Kiva, in particular as "Kiva-scholar."

Event-2021

This year, three events "claim" this title: the coronavirus pandemic (6.5%), the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence (6.3%), and vaccination against coronavirus (5.9%).

4.4% of respondents mentioned the resignation of Verkhovna Rada Speaker Dmytro Razumkov as an event of the year. And for 3.8%, the event of the year was Wagnergate, another 3.7% believe that it is the law on the land market.

The threat of Russian invasion was identified as the event of the year in Ukraine by 3% of respondents, another 2.8% called the war such an event. Sociologists noted that in 2020, choosing the event of the year from the proposed list, the war in Donbas was noted by 12.2% of respondents.

Note

From December 17 to 22, sociologists surveyed 2,018 people over the age of 18 living in all regions of Ukraine except the temporarily occupied Crimea and Donbas. The theoretical sampling error doesn't exceed 2.3%.
