Liver transplant surgery performed for the first time at Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital
The Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital performed the first liver transplant operation in the region.
This was announced on Facebook by the head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration Serhii Hamalii.
"Tonight at Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital a group of doctors consisting of Vadum Monastyrskyi, Anatolii Sukhodol, Oleksii Pidmurniak, Oleksandr Pidmurniak, Liudmila Sukhodol, Kateryna Tsekhmister, and operating nurse Ina Yaroslavl has conducted the first liver transplant in the Khmelnytskyi region," the statement said.
It is noted that the liver was transplanted from a patient in whom doctors diagnosed brain death. The relatives of the deceased agreed. The operation lasted for 12 hours.
"The patient who had a liver transplant is now conscious, he is feeling well, he is already talking, all vital organs and systems are working, his tests are improving," Hamalii added.
The regional hospital has been preparing for such an operation for two years. During this time, they purchased the necessary equipment worth almost UAH 9 million, and transplant doctors were trained at the Shalimov National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology.
