Zelenskyy: Ukraine wants a clear perspective in NATO in 2022
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Ukraine wanted to get a very clear time perspective for NATO membership in 2022.
Zelenskyy said this during a meeting with the ambassadors of Ukraine in Huta in the Ivano-Frankivsk region on December 21, EP reports.
"We cannot accept the point, which is also very popular today, about the EU in 30 years, and NATO some time, in 50 years. This demotivates and slows down everyone. For fast movement, we should not waste time on some minor things," said the President.
According to him, Ukraine seeks to achieve membership in the European Union in the coming years and gets a very clear time perspective from NATO.
"Very specific. We want to get it in 2022," Zelenskyy said.
Speaking about foreign policy goals, Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian diplomacy must be faster to achieve them.
"Currently, Ukraine is forced to catch up in many processes, and this is wrong," Zelenskyy said.
To recap, on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced "draft agreements" on the actual distribution of spheres of influence in Europe, which Moscow wants to sign with the North Atlantic Alliance and the United States.
In one point, Russia invites NATO countries to commit themselves to "excluding further NATO enlargement, including the accession of Ukraine and other states."
NATO has said that the dialogue with Russia should take into account NATO's concerns about Russia's actions, be based on key principles and documents on European security, and be held in consultation with NATO's European partners, such as Ukraine.
