Anti-Semitism may result in criminal liability in Ukraine
The Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law, which will introduce criminal liability for manifestations of anti-Semitism in Ukraine in the first reading.
During the meeting on December 16, 300 deputies voted for the amendments to the criminal law, ZN.UA reports.
According to the explanatory note to the draft law, the provisions of the Criminal Code will be regulated under the provisions of the draft law "On Prevention and Counteraction to Anti-Semitism in Ukraine," which legally regulates issues of counteraction and prevention of anti-Semitism and its manifestations in Ukraine.
The draft law includes anti-Semitism in the list of intentional actions aimed at inciting national, racial, or religious hostility and hatred, which entails criminal liability.
In September the Verkhovna Rada passed a law "On Preventing and Counteracting Anti-Semitism in Ukraine" aimed at preventing anti-Semitism, its manifestations in Ukraine, protecting and preventing human rights, preventing xenophobia, racism and discrimination. The law defines the term "anti-Semitism" and indicates its main manifestations.
