A volunteer sign language school launched in Rivne

The volunteer school of sign language "Spead the Wings" started operating in Rivne.

The head of the project, the head of the Wings Foundation of Youth Initiatives public organization Yurii Tkachuk announced this, Ukrinform reports.

"With this project, we want to help adults and children master the basics of sign language, learn to communicate with people with hearing impairments. We are convinced that the volunteer school will contribute to a quality life for people with special needs," said Tkachuk.

According to him, school participants will take part in educational and developmental programs. Training will consist of 6 lessons twice a week, including online.

The project became possible with the organizational support of the Rivne regional organization "Ukrainian Society of the Deaf" and financial support of the regional Department of Digital Transformation and Public Communications.

According to the WHO, every ninth inhabitant of the planet suffers from various hearing impairments. About 1.5 million such citizens live in Ukraine, a tenth of them. 150 thousand people, speak sign language. However, about 350 sign language translators speak sign language.
