A modern embankment being built in Chernihiv region with EU grant funds

An embankment is being built over the Desna in the city of Novhorod-Siverskyi with grant funds from the European Union.

The deputy of the Novhorod-Siverskyi mayor Serhii Yozhikov announced it, Ukrinform reports.

"The city won a grant from the European Union for tourism development in the amount of over UAH 13 million. Of these, 11.5 million is spent on the construction of the embankment with a length of almost 1 km, and the rest (including our co-financing) will go to improve other tourist areas and locations," said the official.

The deputy mayor said that the embankment is being built over Desna under the mountain where the Savior-Transfiguration Monastery is located.

This will be a completely new road with parking for light-duty vehicles (mopeds, bicycles, etc.), which will be blocked on both sides in the summer with barriers and made exclusively pedestrian. The road will be separated from the Desna River by an existing city beach. The embankment is being built on the site of the primer.

According to Serhii Yozhikov, by the end of this year, the contractor will cover the embankment with asphalt, and install 35 LED lights, build children's and sports grounds on the beach next year.

The official added that it was the largest investment project of the Novhorod-Siverskyi community in recent decades, aimed at increasing the tourist attractiveness of the city.
