Verkhovna Rada dismisses Defense Minister Andriy Taran
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has dismissed Andriy Taran from the post of Defense Minister of Ukraine.
Some 341 MPs voted in favor of the relevant decision at a parliament's meeting on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
On November 2, 2021, Defense Minister Andriy Taran submitted his resignation letter to the Verkhovna Rada. Taran had headed the Defense Ministry of Ukraine since March 4, 2020.
On November 1, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov submitted his letter of resignation to the Verkhovna Rada. On the same day, members of the Servant of the People faction decided to delegate Iryna Vereshchuk for this position. They also supported the decision of President Volodymyr Zelensky to nominate Reznikov for the post of defense minister to replace Andriy Taran.
The Verkhovna Rada plans to appoint Reznikov as defense minister and Vereshchuk as deputy prime minister, minister for the reintegration of temporarily occupied territories at a meeting on November 4.
