Kyiv region officially has its first natural forest
Two forest areas in the Kyiv region have been officially recognized as natural forests. From now on, all types of logging are prohibited here, and the forest ecosystem is maximally protected.
This was announced by the World Wide Fund for Nature WWF-Ukraine on its Facebook, Rubryka reports.
The total area of plots is 44.1 hectares. They are located within the "Yakhnivskyi" landscape reserve of local significance. They grow juniper.
It is noted that within the Kyiv region, WWF-Ukraine experts identified 15 areas of natural forests, with a total area of 149.6 hectares. Work is currently underway to grant them protection status.
Since the beginning of 2021, with the assistance of WWF-Ukraine, 47 virgin natural landmarks have been created in Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, and Volyn regions with a total area of 5,406.7 hectares.
