UAH 3 million in 25-kopiika coins collected during the “Coins for Children” campaign

From September 1 to October 15, the National Bank of Ukraine and the largest charitable fund in the field of pediatric oncology in Ukraine "Tabletochki" held a "Coins for Children" campaign. More than 4,000 educational institutions and companies joined the initiative. Thanks to the personal involvement of Ukrainians, they managed to raise 3 million hryvnias, which will become a powerful help for children struggling with cancer.

Rubryka reports.

Every day, three families in Ukraine learn that their child has cancer and is left face to face with the disease. Currently, only half of the children with cancer recover in Ukraine, but the statistics can be changed. Children's cancer is curable. It can be overcome with timely and quality treatment. And for this, you need to unite all together.

Throughout September, concerned Ukrainians collected coins with a face value of 25 kopiikas, which went out of circulation a year ago, and transferred the funds raised to help the wards of the Tabletochki Foundation.

"The 25-kopiika coins ended their existence as a means of payment and now, thanks to everyone who joined the campaign, they will continue to live in the form of helping children! Thank you all for your involvement, together we bring children with cancer closer to recovery," said Olha Kudinenko, the founder of the Tabletochki charity foundation.

The driving force of the initiative was schoolchildren and students, and teams of companies also joined. Thanks to more than 4,000 educational institutions and companies that took part in the charity event of the National Bank of Ukraine and the Tabletocki Foundation, "Coins for Children," children with cancer will receive benefits in the amount of UAH 3 million. The fund will be used to help two oncology centers, to provide the neurosurgery department of "Okhmatdyt" with consumables for six months, as well as to purchase an ultrasonic scalpel for the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children's Center in Lviv.

Consumables are needed for the operation of the intraoperative neuromonitor, which was purchased for the hospital two years ago thanks to Tabletochki philanthropists. This monitor monitors the surgeon's movements during complex operations on the brain and spinal cord. This will prevent the surgeon from affecting important nerve centers that are responsible for the ability to breathe, move, and speak.

Ultrasound scalpel will annually perform the most complex level operations on 50 children with cancer and about a hundred more operations on children with other diseases. This scalpel will reduce blood loss and the duration of the operation. As a result, children will be able to tolerate the operation easier and recover faster.

"It is very nice to see such a result of a joint initiative with the Tabletochki Charitable Foundation. Joining forces for the future of young Ukrainians and joining the good cause is a choice because each of us can help, even if we find a coin in our pocket that can no longer be used to pay," said the Chairperson of the National Bank Kyrylo Shevchenko.

"Tabletochki is a charitable foundation that has been helping children with cancer in Ukraine for 10 years. The foundation works in four areas: targeted assistance to families, systemic assistance to children's cancer departments, protection of children's rights, and professional development of medical staff. Every month, the fund takes care of 500 families and 21 cancer departments throughout Ukraine. During the operation of the fund, more than 5,500 families received targeted assistance.
