Zelenskyy appoints an ombudsperson for defenders
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Aliona Verbytska as Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Ensuring the Rights of Defenders of Ukraine.
This is stated in the decree №531/2021, Rubryka reports.
"Appoint Aliona Verbytska as an adviser, the president's commissioner for ensuring the rights of defenders," the document reads.
Verbytska is an adviser to the Head of the Office of the President, Andrii Yermak.
Aliona Verbytska is a Cherkasy volunteer, the head of the Charitable Foundation "With Faith in Yourself."
In November 2015, she was appointed Adviser to the Chief of the General Staff, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Verbytska was also an adviser to Deputy Head of the Office of the President Valerii Kondratiuk (since 2017), as well as an adviser to Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka (in 2019).
In April 2021, she headed the Advisory Council for the Rights and Freedoms of Defenders of Ukraine.
