Ukraine, EU sign two more agreements at summit in Kyiv
The agreements on Ukraine's access to the Horizon Europe and Creative Europe programs regarding cooperation in the arts, research and academic spheres was signed at the Ukraine-EU summit in Kyiv on October 12.
The documents were signed in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell signed the agreement on access to the Horizon Europe program.
Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna and Josep Borrell signed the agreement on access to the Creative Europe program.
Horizon Europe is aimed at supporting research, developing innovative solutions, developing small and medium-sized businesses through the implementation of joint international projects and participation in exchange programs with EU countries.
European Partnerships under Horizon Europe are initiatives within the program that function as separate sub-programs with their own budgets and are aimed at maintaining cooperation between private and public institutions (research institutions, higher education institutions, public and private foundations, public organizations, etc.) to support research and innovation.
Creative Europe is a European Union program that supports the cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors. It funds projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural diversity and meeting the needs and challenges of the cultural and creative sectors. In addition, the new program promotes and supports the recovery of these industries, the use of digital technologies, environmental friendliness, flexibility, adaptability, and inclusiveness.
The purpose of the Creative Europe program is to safeguard, develop and promote European cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage and to increase the competitiveness and economic potential of the cultural and creative sectors, in particular the audiovisual sector.
Earlier at the summit, Ukraine and the EU signed a Common Aviation Area Agreement.
