In Zhytomyr, students have developed a mobile application for studying chemistry

Based at the engineering school at Polissia National University in Zhytomyr, students have developed a mobile application for studying chemistry, AR School.

Kateryna Molodetska, the head of the scientific and technical laboratory of the Noosphere Engineering School, announced it, Ukrinform reports.

"Unfortunately, in educational institutions, studying natural sciences, including chemistry, takes place without the use of necessary equipment and reagents due to their high cost. Therefore, our students offered to visualize all processes and chemical reactions using augmented reality technology. Thus, the AR School mobile application provides an opportunity to show chemicals, reagents, their interaction with each other on each of the topics that students go through at school," said Molodetska.

According to her, the AR School application consists of two modules. The first is a module for visualization of chemical reactions, and the second includes test tasks, methodical materials.

"All the images used in the application are unique. Students open a chemistry textbook, read the study material, view photos and videos of reagents and reactions, and then create their own drawings, then combine graphic content with software. Each reagent is presented as a card. By combining the required number of cards and reagents, we have the opportunity to see the chemical reaction," the head of the scientific and technical laboratory of the Noosphere School of Engineering added.

The AR School application focuses on the chemistry program approved by the Ministry of Education and Science. Its developers are in constant contact with the chemistry teachers who work at the school and make sure that their wishes are taken into account.

Students are currently working on a chemistry program for 10-11 grades. They intend to study all the teaching material for the chemistry course.

"After the authors have completed one academic year in the chemistry course, the application will be handed over to the school to receive feedback from teachers and students who will help improve it," said Molodetska.

Maria Vakulenko, Olha and Iryna Minenko, students of Polissia National University, are working on the development of the AR School application.

Currently, their development has reached the semifinals of the competition of startup projects in the field of information technology, IT_EUREKA.
