Pronia Prokopivna's sculpture speaks Ukrainian in Kyiv
The monument to the main characters of the comedy, "Chasing Two Hares," is one of the most famous in Kyiv. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the legendary film, it spoke in words from the original Ukrainian-language version of the film, which had long been considered lost. Pronia Prokopivna's sculpture will speak famous phrases from the film until November 24.
"Chasing Two Hares" was released in Russian and immediately became a cult in the former Soviet Union. The funny adventures of the adventurer Holokhvastov, who decides to marry a wealthy but not very beautiful and educated girl, Pronia, were loved by millions of viewers. The film was quickly broken down into quotes. However, few people know that the original version of "Chasing Two Hares" was in Ukrainian. Shot and even presented in 1961, the film was dubbed for all-Union distribution.
For many years, the Ukrainian version was considered lost, until in 2013 it was accidentally found in the Mariupol Film Fund. Now you can hear the famous sayings of Pronia Prokopivna as they were in the original, thanks to modern technology.
"The Monument of 'Chasing Two Hares' is a real Kyiv legend," says Oleksandr Lavrov, project organizer and head of the Biosfera Corporation's personal hygiene business. "Wedding processions come here, lovers and thousands of tourists come here because many fans have endowed the sculpture with a magical ability. They say that to get married, you need to rub a ring on Pronia's hand, and to find a bride, you need to rub a beetle on Holokhvastov's jacket. This tradition seems very nice to us, so for the 60th anniversary of the film, the Smile brand together with the Kyiv City State Administration and Dovzhenko's Studio decided to make a gift to all comedy fans. To hear phrases from a Ukrainian-language film, just walk up to the monument and rub it for good luck. And then don't forget to disinfect your hands."
It is possible that soon the brand will give a voice to other famous monuments in different parts of Ukraine.
