In Chernihiv, activists will take away plastic from schools by electric bicycle

As part of the "Plastic Fantastic" environmental project, implemented by the NGO "Eco-city," activists will take away garbage by electric bicycle to reduce the carbon footprint.

The head of the public organization Serhii Bezborodko announced this, Ukrinform reports.

"We've already delivered plastic waste containers to schools by electric bicycle. When they're full, we'll also take the plastic out for recycling. We want to show an example of how to transport goods without the use of internal combustion engines and carbon footprint, as well as to promote electric vehicles," the environmental activist explained.

According to him, this kind of cargo electric bicycle is the only one in Chernihiv.

It was made by special order of "Eco-city" based on the National University "Chernihiv Polytechnic," where a startup for the production of electric vehicles is being implemented.

The tricycle has a mechanical drive and an electric motor. The loading platform can withstand up to 500 kg of weight. It is equipped with a powerful battery and can travel more than 60 km on a single charge. The maximum speed can reach 50 km/h.

As practice has shown, this is too much for an electric bicycle. Therefore, it's now being upgraded to limit the speed to 35 km/h and move safely through the city streets.

Serhii Bezborodko added that the Plastic Fantastic project was being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic within the Transition Promotion Program. The electric bicycle was made at the expense of the received grant.

The installation of plastic collection containers in Chernihiv schools began in September of this year. At the same time, activists opened a workshop for recycling.
