Ukraine keeps tenth place in world pig iron production
In January-August 2021, Ukraine produced 14.48 million tonnes of pig iron, taking the tenth place in the world ranking of pig iron producers, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Ukrmetalurgprom Association.
According to Worldsteel, 981.96 million tonnes of pig iron was produced in January-August 2021, which is 5.3% more than in the same period last year.
China remains the world's largest pig iron producer, steelmakers of which in January-August 2021 produced 605.38 million tonnes (up 0.6% from January-August 2020). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production was 61.7%.
The top five pig iron producing countries in January-August 2021 also included India (77.97 million tonnes; up 22.5%), Japan (47.04 million tonnes; up 14.6%), Russia (41.32 million tonnes; up 3.9%), and South Korea (31.01 million tonnes; up 5.2%).
Ukraine over the reporting period produced 14.48 million tonnes of pig iron, taking the tenth place among 38 world pig iron producers, which is 6.8% more than in January-August 2020.
World steel production in January-August 2021 amounted to 1.32 billion tonnes, which was 10.6% more than in January-August 2020.
The top five steel producing countries were China (733.02 million tonnes, up 5.3%), India (77.74 million tonnes; up 25.6%), Japan (63.99 million tonnes; up 17.0%), the United States (57.07 million tonnes, up 19.5%), and Russia (50.76 million tonnes; up 7.7%).
Ukraine was 14th among 64 world steel producers in January-August 2021 (14.59 million tonnes; up 6.6%).
