"Green Country": anyone can join and monitor the program's implementation

Everyone will be able to monitor the progress of forest planting in individual regions. In addition, anyone will be able to join a large-scale eco-initiative and plant a forest.

The Ministry of Environment Protection announced it, Rubryka reports.

You can follow the forest plantations on a special site zelenakraina.gov.ua.

To join the initiative, you need to fill out a special registration form to participate in the "Creating Forests Together" initiative.

During the planting, foresters will provide free planting material and hold workshops on planting forests.

Foresters will plant one- and two-year-old seedlings of trees and shrubs (depending on the location). These will be trees, typical for Ukraine, common oak, common pine, Crimean black pine, common spruce, silver fir, European beech, common ash, small-leaved linden, Norway maple, sycamore maple, and others. When creating forest crops, global climate change will be taken into account to grow biologically resistant forest plantations.

The ministry notes that the main driver of the eco-initiative will be the State Forest Agency, which owns 73% of forests. By the end of 2024, foresters will plant more than 166,000 hectares of crops.

"Together with the Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources Roman Abramovskyi, we've developed a clear roadmap for the implementation of the Green Country program. We've already started to increase our capacity. Over the years, we should have 9 modern and technological breeding and seed centers. We're opening such a center in Lviv; by the end of the year, we'll open another one in Lyman, Donetsk region. We'll build such technological seed centers in Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, Sumy, Kherson, Kirovohrad regions," said the head of the State Forestry Agency Yurii Bolokhovets.
