European Commission comments on Ukraine’s note on Nord Stream-2

The European Commission is ready to discuss and continue the dialogue with Ukraine on energy issues.

This is stated in the European Commission's response to a note sent by Kyiv to Brussels regarding the agreement that the United States and Germany have concluded since the completion of Nord Stream-2.

"We're in constant contact with the Ukrainian authorities on many issues, including energy. We look forward to discussing with our Ukrainian colleagues how best to comply with their consultation request," the European Commission said.

"We've sent a reply to our Ukrainian colleagues expressing our readiness to discuss and continue the ongoing dialogue on energy issues. The EU continues to attach great importance to Ukraine's energy security. We remain ready to discuss any issues of concern to Ukraine," the European Commission noted.

As reported by Rubryka, at the end of July, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sent notes to Brussels and Berlin about consultations due to an agreement reached by the United States and Germany to complete the construction of Nord Stream-2. The European Commission later confirmed receiving a request from the Foreign Ministry for urgent consultations.

To recap, on July 21, the United States and Germany reached an agreement on the construction of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline to Europe, without imposing further US sanctions. Later, the United States and Germany announced a joint agreement to complete the construction of Nord Stream 2, which promises to support Ukraine's sovereignty and independence. The document is called "Joint statement of the US and Germany on support for Ukraine, European energy security and climate goals."
