12 Ukrainians can’t leave Afghanistan: they’ve been blocked by the Taliban

Diplomats are liaising with Ukrainians stranded at a military base in Afghanistan and will instruct on further steps when an evacuation is possible.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleh Nikolenko announced this, Ukrinform reports.

"Foreign Ministry is aware of twelve Ukrainians who are currently at a military base in Afghanistan. Our embassy keeps in touch with them and will instruct them on further steps as soon as the possibility of evacuation arises," Nikolenko said.

Earlier, one of the Ukrainians at this base told LIGA.net on condition of anonymity that 12 Ukrainians working under a private military contract were blocked at a military base in Afghanistan. According to him, the Taliban threw away the old guards, replaced them, and didn't release Ukrainians from the base. The blocked Ukrainians appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the military attaché yesterday to evacuate, but the proposed evacuation through Pakistan is currently not feasible for them.

As reported by Rubryka, on August 13, the Taliban captured the largest cities in Afghanistan.

On August 15, the Taliban announced the capture of all of Afghanistan.

120 Ukrainians have already turned to diplomats with a request to evacuate from Afghanistan, where the Taliban group seized power. There's a Ukrainian plane at Kabul airport, but it couldn't take off due to people blocking the runways.
