Ukraine calls on Russia to prove its desire to end the war in Donbas in practice

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has stated that the security situation in Donbas has "degraded" and called on the world to urge Ukraine to end the war in the East. Ukraine considers this statement a transfer of responsibility.

The press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleh Nikolenko, stated this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the Ukrainian side of allegedly violating the ceasefire in Donbas and delaying talks on resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"Russia is desperately trying to lay its own fault at somebody else's door. The conscientious fulfillment of its peace commitments is increasingly being replaced by noisy political statements," Nikolenko said.

A spokesperson for Ukraine's foreign ministry said Russia could prove its political will "not in words but in deeds" to end its armed conflict with Ukraine.

"To order the armed groups under its control in Donbas to strictly adhere to the ceasefire regime, to stop sabotaging the work of the Trilateral Contact Group, to unblock the implementation of the decisions of the leaders of the Normandy format," he said.

Nikolenko stressed that the residents of the occupied Donbas needed an alternative to the destructive policy of the "Russian world," and the Kremlin must realize that "it is impossible to build peace on Russian tanks."

"We are still determined to make progress in the political and diplomatic settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict. We expect that the logic of war will inevitably be abandoned by Russia as well," the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.
