In June of this year, PJSC RPC Ukrnaftinvest started the construction of the first well in the oil field in the Sarata district of the Odesa region.

The press service of BGV Group Management reports.

It's noted that the work process in this deposit is launched with an extra force.

As an investment project of BGV Group Management, PJSC RPC Ukrnaftinvest uses modern technologies to start field development and provide the oil refining industry with raw materials, Ukrainians with jobs, and the country with energy security. Everything is safe, in compliance with environmental norms and standards and the current legislation of Ukraine.

"The history of this field is ancient. The first exploratory drilling on the Sarata block was carried out in the 1970s, and the East Sarata deposit was discovered in 1983. BGV Group is the first to come here with the latest technologies," Vakha Tsytskiiev, CTO of Ukrnaftinvest, comments.

The geological structure of this part of Southern Ukraine is different: it differs from the geological structure of the two main oil and gas regions of Ukraine: western (Zakarpattia, Carpathians, and Precarpathian trough) and eastern (Dnieper-Donets Rift). The geology here is very different and requires the use of modern methods of drilling and development of oil fields to obtain an industrial result. For example, in the drilling process, we use special hydrocarbon-based drilling fluids. The part of the well where the oil-saturated layers lie was lined with a casing using the unique technology of swell packers.

At each stage of the project, the company involves leading Ukrainian and foreign companies. After they've drilled the well to the planned depth, Weatherford company conducted a set of geophysical surveys.

"We are scrupulous about the safety of personnel, the environment, and territories, have the entire package of permits, and we've passed comprehensive environmental impact examinations (EIA procedures).

Our company's policy is to develop the surrounding communities. According to the project development plan, we'll actively create jobs, involve people, most of whom will be local. In addition, we plan to give long-term social assistance to local communities, which is a common practice for our company," the statement reads.

"Now is the right time for these deposits and our company," Michal Mysliwiec, Director of the Geology Department at BGV Group Management, comments.

BGV Group Management invests heavily in the extraction of critical mineral resources in Ukraine, including natural gas and crude oil.

"We consider the project very promising: the previously proven geological oil reserves of the largest field are about 8 million tons. Oil companies, not having been involved in this region of Ukraine for many years, is, in our view, positive. If it were otherwise, the oil fields discovered in the 80s in the area might've already been developed.

The fields of the Preddobrudzka oil and gas-bearing area require new technologies for drilling, exploration, development, and, finally, oil production. That is why we use the best methods that are available in Ukraine. Some of these technologies, such as nuclear magnetic logging for exploration of oil-saturated grounds, or elastomer packers, swellable after contact with hydrocarbons, for separation of shelves, and control of wellbore surge, are among the most modern in the world and are only occasionally used in Ukraine.

Based on the obtained results of geophysical surveys, we expect an excellent result of the first well. After development, we'll pass to a stage of trial oil production. At the same time, we're starting preparations for drilling the next wells in early 2022, which will be gradually put into operation. To engineer these wells and accelerate project development, we conducted special seismic surveys using the VSP method for the first well. At the next stage, we plan to conduct modern 3D seismic measurements on the territory of the field.

The production area of the Sarata district is agriculture, so to limit the negative impact on the environment we'll drill several inclined wells from one small area for oil production.

The development of a field with reserves of several million tons of crude oil is a process that requires appropriate technology, logistics, the work of many different specialists, and, finally, high financial costs. Completion of drilling the first well is a confirmation that our company is completely ready for this."

"We consider this a small victory for Ukraine. After all, getting rid of "sleeping" licenses is another step towards real energy independence and independence of Ukraine from external players.

The BGV Group Management investment company, owned by Hennadii Butkevych, is not only expanding the field of mining, but it's also investing in the independent future of Ukraine. In our opinion, energy and subsoil are, of course, an important part of this future, as well as investments of Ukrainian business in new projects in Ukraine. This is exactly what our state needs for sustainable development," the company stresses.
