Ukrainian artist Oleksandr Roytburd died

On August 8, famous Ukrainian artist and director of the Odesa Art Museum Oleksandr Roytburd passed away. 

Babel reported it with the reference to the Odesa Art Museum.

"At the age of 60, Ukrainian artist, head of the Odesa Art Museum, Olexandr Roytburd, has died," the message says.

The artist died after a long illness.

Roitburd was born in Odesa in 1961. In 1983 he graduated from the art-graphic faculty of the Odesa Pedagogical Institute. He co-founded the "New Art" association (Odesa), headed the Marat Guelman Gallery in Kyiv. He was a member of the Council for the Development of Mystetsky Arsenal National Cultural, Art, and Museum Complex. He lived and worked in two cities – in Odesa and in Kyiv.

He worked as a painter and installation artist, among other things with video and photo projects. At the Kyiv Book Arsenal 2016, a room with large-format provocative works was dedicated to his work. From March 2018 to September 4, 2019, he was the director of the Odessa Art Museum.
