Almost 150 cases of Delta strain were confirmed in Ukraine. Infected people often need to be hospitalized

As of August 5, 147 cases of infection with the Delta coronavirus strain, which is considered to be more contagious, have been recorded in Ukraine.

Chief Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin announced this on Ukrainske Radio.

The number of officially confirmed cases has increased several times a week. As early as July 28, it was known that 17 people were infected with the Delta strain in Ukraine.

According to Kuzin, the mutated strain is spreading in Volyn, Odesa, Ternopil regions, as well as in Chernivtsi and Kyiv.

"Now these places give the highest percentage of positive cases of this strain. What are its features? In fact, it spreads faster than the usual virus. It also often leads to hospitalization," the sanitary doctor said.

Kuzin added that the Ministry of Health expected an increase in coronavirus incidence and other respiratory viral infections from late September to early October. Therefore, in August-September, the Ministry of Health wants to accelerate the pace of vaccination to prevent outbreaks of disease and hospitalizations.
