2020 Olympics: wrestler Cherkasova wins bronze
Ukrainian wrestler Alla Cherkasova (weight category up to 68 kg) became a bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
In the fight for a place on the pedestal, Cherkasova pinned the Olympic champion of Rio 2016 Japanese Sara Dosho on the mat, the NOC of Ukraine reports.
To recap, Cherkasova started the day before with a confident victory over Agnieszka Wieszczek from Poland (11:0), pinned German Anna Carmen Schell on the mat in the quarterfinals, but lost to American Tamira Mensa-Stoke (4:10) in the semifinals.
The 32-year-old representative of Ukraine in women's wrestling stands for the Lviv region. Cherkasova got to the 2020 Olympics at the choice of the coaching staff of the Ukrainian wrestling team. She obtained the license in the weight of up to 68 kg for Ukraine, following the results of the 2019 world championship.
Alla Cherkasova is a 2-time winner of the World Championships and a 5-time winner of the Euro in women's wrestling. The highest results are the "gold" of the 2018 World Cup and the Euro in 2019.
Now the Ukrainian national team has won seven Olympic medals, six of which are bronze. In addition to Cherkasova, Mykhailo Romanchuk won bronze for swimming (800 meters freestyle), Daria Bilodid in judo, Ihor Reizlin in fencing, Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk in team shooting, and Elina Svitolina in tennis. Mykhailo Romanchuk won the first silver medal for Ukraine (in the distance of 1500 meters freestyle).
