As part of the cultural diplomacy project, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska presented a Ukrainian-language audio guide at the Fort Jesus historical monument of the 16th century in Kenya.

The guide became the 25th in the network of Ukrainian-language audio guides around the world and the first one in East Africa, the President's press service reports.

"Audio guides are a small part of such a large-scale area as cultural diplomacy. Systematic and gradual steps should be taken to build and develop international relations. The main goal of the audio guide project is to promote the Ukrainian language around the world so that it is known and heard in as many places as possible," Zelenska said.

As noted, Fort Jesus is a unique fortress located in Mombasa, the main tourist city of Kenya, which was an outpost of Europeans in the Indian Ocean. Since 2011, the fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The President's Office informs that Ukrainian is the first foreign language to be heard within the walls of the 400-year-old fort.

"The launch of a Ukrainian-language audio guide at the Fort Jesus has become especially relevant in connection with the launch of direct charter flights between Ukraine and Kenya in April 2021 which has already increased significantly the number of Ukrainian tourists in the south of this country," the President's Office explains.
