Ukraine's fourth medal at Olympics: swimmer Romanchuk wins bronze
Ukrainian swimmer, European champion, World Championship winner Mykhailo Romanchuk won a bronze medal in the 800-meter freestyle at the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The NOC of Ukraine and the Olympic team reported this on Facebook.
"Our compatriot showed a time of 7.42.33 In the final. Another Ukrainian, together with Romanchuk, qualified for the top eight, Serhii Frolov became sixth in the final (7.45.11)," the National Olympic Committee said.
"I have been reaching this award for 18 years. From the age of 6, when I started swimming and came to my coach, Petro Nahornyi, with whom I managed to achieve all the results. Of course, without him nothing would have happened," Romanchuk said.
According to the athlete, it was "an extremely difficult and unusual finale."
"I really hoped to improve my Olympic record, which I set in the semifinals. But I am glad that it was never surpassed," Romanchuk said.
Despite a minor disappointment, he noted his fighting spirit for a new start, which will take place tomorrow.
Currently, the Ukrainian national team has four bronze medals at the 2020 Olympic Games.
