Venediktova discussed MH17 flight downing with Dutch ambassador

Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova discussed with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine Jennes de Mol the case of the MH17 flight downing over the occupied territory of our state.

They discussed it during a meeting, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation in environmental protection, cybersecurity, digitalization, and investment protection.

"They focused on the case of the MH17 downing over Ukraine, which is acute for both countries. The Prosecutor General and the Head of the War Department of the Prosecutor General's Office stressed that Ukrainian prosecutors and investigators were doing everything possible to achieve a common goal, to identify all those who gave orders, persons involved in transporting BUK SAM and directly launching missiles," the statement says.

According to the Prosecutor General, "the case of the Malaysian Boeing hurts the whole world."

Venediktova said that Ukraine planned to establish an International Council under the Prosecutor General to effectively cooperate with international courts and use the legal experience of other countries that have gone through armed conflicts.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands stated that a group of Dutch prosecutors and investigators was ready to come to Ukraine to work out further steps in the MH17 case. The parties also discussed the possibility of a visit of the Prosecutor General of the Netherlands to Ukraine.

The guest said that the Dutch law enforcement agencies would be ready to cooperate and share the experience with Ukrainian colleagues in other areas.

The Prosecutor General stressed that the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office was currently being transformed into a world-class institution, so it's studying best practices.

It was reported that a passenger Boeing-777 of Malaysia Airlines, flying MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in the temporarily occupied part of the Donetsk region on July 17, 2014. There were 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board, all of whom died.
