Rivneazot doesn’t let an environmental inspection in

The inspection bodies suggest that Rivneazot probably wanted to hide the accident. Emergency services learned from social media that an emergency had occurred. And today, despite promises of the enterprise management, "Rivneazot" didn't let environmental inspection in.

Only later did the company comment that nitrous gases had been released into the air because of the depressurization of the pipeline.

"There are facts that the company wanted to hide the consequences of the accident as much as possible," Andrii Malovanyi, Head of the Ecological Inspection of Ukraine, suggests.

He came to the Rivne region to study the situation. He says that at the meeting, the management of Rivneazot promised to assist all inspections. But when having got to the enterprise, he heard the opposite.

Inspectors weren't allowed to enter the plant. Now they're preparing documents to conduct an unscheduled inspection at Rivneazot. At the same time, the relevant services are figuring out why the chemical company didn't immediately inform anyone about the accident.

"They should unequivocally report this case, so that both the head of the SES in the region and I, as the mayor, should've had all the information to plan an algorithm of action on a potential evacuation," the mayor of Rivne Oleksandr Tretiak says.

"They say the silence about such situations can lead to terrible consequences. Several laboratories are finding out after the accident whether it's safe for people to breathe now. But no dangerous concentrated chemicals have been detected. However, we need to study the soil in the direction of the orange cloud. The results will be ready in a few days," the story says.

The police are investigating the proceedings for violating safety rules at the chemical plant.
