Zelenskyi and Rada are asked to support medical cannabis legalization as soon as possible

In a video message, the mother of a seriously ill girl asks President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov, and deputies to support a draft law, legalizing medical cannabis, which will significantly improve the quality of life of millions of patients.

Viktoria Mostovenko, the mother of Sofia, a patient with a complex form of epilepsy, whose name is in the above-mentioned draft ("Law for Sofia"), stated this on Facebook.

"As the mother of a seriously ill child, I ask you to pass a draft law on medical cannabis, named after Sofia and which has the number 5596. This is a draft law on medical cannabis, which will allow my child to improve her quality of life and live without pain," she said in the video message.

According to the Patients of Ukraine Charitable Foundation, more than 2 million patients with oncology, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, palliative patients, and about 20,000 children suffering from severe epilepsy are waiting for cannabis to be legalized in Ukraine. Access to drugs based on medical cannabis significantly improves the quality of life of such patients, relieves them of prolonged pain.

Viktoria Mostovenko is currently getting medical cannabis oil for her daughter from abroad.

These drugs are allowed in more than 60 countries around the world, but in Ukraine, people who get them for their relatives are actually criminals, because the drugs are still banned.

The girl's mother explains that without these drugs, her daughter's body twists for many hours every day.

"That's why I have to be outlawed. I have to look for ways to buy this medication for my child and save her every day," she said.

On Tuesday, July 13, at 9:30 am, seriously ill patients will hold a rally outside the Verkhovna Rada calling on them to vote as soon as possible for the Law for Sofia, a draft law № 5596 on medical cannabis legalization.

As reported by Rubryka, the draft law on legalizing cannabis was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on June 2. On June 30, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Public Health, Medical Assistance, and Medical Insurance supported Draft Law №5596 on the legalization of medical cannabis in Ukraine.
